The tower top is a plastic case that help CD's. You can see the lable in the pic. I had to modify it a little, cut off tabs and what not. The bottom of the case (used as my floor) was trimmed up to fit and brought up to a good height for minis. Card board cut from a old mailer was glued around the top and metal rivets were then glued in place. Its an evil chaos relic dug up by imperial miners. The relic once uncoved has started to currupt everything. As you can see the Imperial Eagle on the drilling rig has already started to melt away. The miners dug up an evil relic and things went bad from there. You could also use it as a captured outpost or take down the flag and use it as a regular Imperial outpost, or industrial site. For defense the out post has a tall watch tower and twin linked las cannons. Also note you have to climb ladders to make it to the steel door needed to access the tower, and round platform holding the las cannon. That said I wanted the look of the outpost to be more industrial than a hardend military site. Comments welcome! Thanks! You will need the following molds to build it. Dragons Inn, Octagon Tower and Wood Plank mold,but the last could be substituted with balsa wood. I also used a few blocks from the Wizards Tower, Prison Tower, Bell Tower and Gothic Church molds. I have never seen anyone make a large ruined castle nor combine these two blocks in a model so while a castle of itself may not be vary original I thought this would be unique. Having a ruined castle also leads to all kinds of battle ideas. I didn't have time to complete my planed medium entry and since I've never really shown this model I figured why not enter it. I did make some slight additions like the decorative border from the gothic roof mold a new tile roof over the door this helped polish it up a bit. The concept was to make a building that I could use as either a town hall or church. I wanted to use a mix of materials and textures to create this little piece of Dwarven haven. As I love the plank and fieldstone molds these were my main choice to build the project. In addition to the Hirst Art planks used on the floor and as beams, they have also been used to construct the main brewing tank. I did use card for the second story walls, but between the lower level flagstone floors, fieldstone walls, wood plank floor/tank and the Hirst Arts wood shingle roof I’d say the building is easily 80% Hirst Art blocks. I’m aware the new rules only call for 60% but I think a higher percentage is more fitting with the spirit of the competition. The only other design note is the precious brewing equipment was placed on the second floor were it could be defended easier. The wood plank made ladder is not glued down so it can be lifted up in case of a sudden orc raid. I know I did not put any chimneys on the roof, but I felt with the open face design and even part of the roof cut back there was plenty of ventilation. This design also allows for easy view of the brewing equipment. I hope you like it, my Dwarf army does they've been half toasted ever since it was build! He was buried in this crypt; the bones of his brothers lie on recessed shelves in a place of honor. I wanted this crypt to look vary old, and thanks to the paint job, and details like spider webs, mold and algae, dirt and moss I think I pulled it off. The other strong point of the model is that has interesting bits on all sides. Wizards come here to consult rare and often forbidden text. All the books in the library are protected by a powerful spell, to remove them means instant death. I came up with the idea for a library for my dungeon from the classic PC game Dungeon Keeper. I makes a good objective room in any type of quest were the party must consult some old book to find out how to break a powerful curse, the location of some majic item or how to destroy some all powerful monster or evil ring.
