 Ruined Watchtower

By HAKAN_K - Dec. 31, 1969

Background: I had a idea of building a ruined and since long abandoned watchtower that could be used as terrain in Warhammer or Mordheim.

Dimensions: the base is a CD (approx. 4.75" in diameter). The tower is 3,5" long, 3" wide and 4" high.

Molds used: Fieldstone Wall Mold #70, Fieldstone Accessories Mold #71, Ruined Fieldstone Mold #75 and Flagstone Floor Tile Mold #260.

The goal was to fit it on a cd and I built it as easy as possible. It is glued with woodglue and with minimal conversion. The only real conversion is cutting out the stones from fieldstone pieces. I painted the ruin black and then drybrushed it several times to get a good stone look. I used two different kind of static grass on the base and on top of the ruin.

I like the occasional off colored stone in the wall. Nice touch.

I agree with some earlier comments that some additional weathering would really set this one apart. It just looks a little too clean.

Nice use and ruining of this fieldstone mold. Good attention to detail in scattering the right amount of ruined bricks around that would still be showing above ground.

Very nicely done. The subtle changes of colours in the stonework add a lot of realism, as do the rubble and the foliage. I'd have to agree with Duke, that a dirty wash or two around the lower parts of the model, would add a lot of age. Apart from that - great.

A very interesting little ruined watch tower. The grass growing on the rubble is a nicely added little detail. I really like this build that can easily go on any gaming table.

To add some weathered stains to the ruin would have finished it off to perfection. But that is just my opinion. Overall this is a great build with a great ruined look.
