By BOSSMAN - Dec. 31, 1969 “The Box of Fates”Buried deep in a long lost treasure hoard rests a small ivory box. Though stained brown with age the topaz gems studding its ancient surface still glimmer and its intricate carvings have managed to resist the ravages of time. Small skulls carved in its lid create a sense of menace but who knows what may lie within but the fates….. Description I have used this box to either house a Deck of Many Things, or as a Die Box; both uses play with the fates of the characters. Construction The box is made up of 136 blocks cast in Patternstone H. (A brand of plasterstone available in Oz). Moulds Used #54 Gothic Church (Capping) #55 Bell Tower (Recessed arches, decorative blocks) #56 Tomb (Double pillars) #70 Fieldstone Mould (Skulls) In addition basic floor blocks were gotten from many different moulds. Customising Decorative capping blocks were mitred to give the patterned decorations on the lid of the box. Extras Ornamental gems were superglued into place. The Deck of Many Things was made using the downloadable pdf file from WOTC released as an accessory to the Dragon Magazine Archives. These were cut out and pasted onto cardboard cards. Edging was done using a gold marker pen then the cards were lacquered. Painting Three coats of ivory acrylic craft paint were used to give a rich ivory colour. Games Workshop “flesh” wash was then applied over the box. I had intended to then drybrush with ivory shades however I liked the ancient look of the wash alone and left it as was.
