 ye olde wishing well

By CAVER - Dec. 31, 1969

This piece has not been entered into any previous HADD's but I must admit it was not constructed specifically for competition. It just came about as the result of a chat room discussion, and I decided to build something that I hadn't yet seen done. It is composed only of casts from the small brick mold, the wooden plank mold, and as an afterthought, I based it on cobblestones.

The non cast components are a games workshop bucket, a round toothpick for the spindle, a bent paperclip for the crankhandle, and a bit of brown thread. And a square toothpick bit for the peak of the roof.

It was basecoated black, then the individual blocks were painted in various shades of grey, I then washed it with very diluted black, and then drybrushed it with a light grey. Then I added some moss, and that was about it for the stonework on the well.
The woodwork was roughly the same technique - basecoated in black, and then 2 or 3 shades of brown, and then overcoated with a brownwash. Unfortunately, it pretty much washed the wood al back to one basic shade of brown. Oh well. The peak I painted copper, and the patina'd with a drybrushing of green.
I intended to add a wooden handle to the crankarm, but never got around to it.
The cobbles are merely four corner casts connected together for a 2" base, basecoated in black. The individual cobbles were painted with a variety of colors - red, orange, beige, grey, brown, etc - and then overwashed with a burnt umber.

Obviously it is not a complicated construction, but I think it leads to reasonabled scaled, commonly encountered small town terrain piece.

Enjoy.

i like it, i like the fact you've gone to trouble with the detailing - like the metal ridge flashings. this wooden mould seems quite useful.

a wishing well category would be interesting GB
