 Rotunda

By BOSSMAN - Dec. 31, 1969

“Rotunda”

Fluff

The Rotunda is a stone structure sited in a garden or upon a hillock where worshippers can quietly contemplate their spirituality outside of the confines of a temple. The lofty structure is also used for outdoor services where the priest will be situated under the dome and his flock will gather around.

Description

The rotunda is a simple yet elegant structure consisting of a circular base with a dressed edge with a step leading up to the main platform. Roman pillars support a dome with each pillar capped with a decorative peak.

Construction

The rotunda is made of approximately 90 blocks cast in Patternstone H. The construction was relatively simple with no modifications required. The Rotunda stands 7.5” high and is 4” in diameter.

Moulds Used

#52 Circular Tower (4” diameter trim, step, floor)
#54 Gothic Church (Decorative caps, trim pieces)
#61 Turret Mould (3” tower blocks, connector pieces, dome)
#62 Roman Temple Mould (Columns)
#80 Dragons Teeth Mould (Pillar bases)
#136 Decorative Top Caps (Top Cap – can also be sourced in #55 Bell Tower)

Customising

None required.

Painting

The base grey blocks (coloured with oxide pigment) were sealed with Bondcrete (a concrete sealant) then primed lightly with white spray paint. This was followed by a dry brush in British Paints “Scented Peach”. This was followed by a brown wash using Woodland Scenics “Burnt Umbar” pigment. This was then followed by a dry brush in British Paints “Ancient Stone”.

another beautifully composed piece - more of a gazebo i think. is it waterproof it'd look good in my fish tank!

however i think the mono-coloured paint job lets it down rather. i would have liked to have seen another of your immaculately tiled floors, maybe a mosaic?

kskyhappy - the impossible just takes a little longer
