 Gothic Library

By TODD_GOSS - Dec. 31, 1969

To build the library I started out with a square wood board for the base. I wanted the libary to have a smooth marble floor so I decided not to use HA blocks here. Instead the floor was painted and sealed with gloss polyurethane. The libary is 9.5x10 inches and 4 inches high on the back wall; others are shorter for ease of play. I used blocks from the wizards tower, ruined tower, gothic dungeon, bell tower, travelers bridge, gothic church, gothic roof mold, fieldstone and fieldstone accessory mold. The last three molds were used only to do the entry pillars. I placed a top pillar cap upside down and used it to mount the skulls on. Both the bookshelves were made from the wood plank mold. I had to do a little cutting to get the boards at the desired length. Even most of the books were made from HA blocks! I cut out pieces from the slate roof mold, the flat section was used for thin books and the L section of the blocks was used for thicker ones. The half circle of fancy pillars is of course from the ruined tower mold. The relief faces on the front of it as well as the fancy border on the back wall is from the gothic roof mold. Most of the non HA accessories are from Reaper including the book piles and pedestal. The paint job which I'm sure Mitch will find fault with was achieved with a grey green stain, brown ink was and dry brushed off white. Last you may have noticed the second, smaller book case is absent from some pics. This was added later after I took the first group of pics and as they were good I decided to use them despite the missing book case. Thanks for looking! Todd

Todd what's going on here? if i were judging it under the constraints of the small or restricted category it would be right up there, but under unique i don't think it's fair. however:

i like the composition of this piece, except that the circular colonnade doesn't make much sense logically although i can see the aesthetic reason for putting it in, i particularly love the gargoyles/familiars holding shields atop the columns and the podium/lecturn. i think the inset floor looks good but i'm not too convinced with the overall marbling effect on the floor - looks like marmoleum. God i sound like one of my old tutors doing a crit - i would heartly welcome a piece like this into my dungeon.

kskyhappy - the impossible just takes a little longer
