 Church of St Francis

By DUKEDREAL - Dec. 31, 1969

Church
Dimensions:
5 ½ inches tall by 14 inches long by 10 inches wide

Molds Used:
Gothic Dungeon Accessories Mold #41, Gothic Arena Accessories Mold #42, Gothic Panel Accessories Mold #43, Floor Tiles Various Sizes Mold #201, Gothic Floor Tiles
Mold #205, Clay Tile Roof Mold #230, Small Brick Mold #250

Construction:
This work is based on foam-board. The structure is meant as an accompanying piece to the bell tower in the small category. The idea was to create a church using the small brick mold and use buttresses to help support the wall. The columns supports are from Rackham and add to the mysterious nature of this church.

The ceiling images are showing the 6 deeds of St Francis. Some of the images show him driving the demons from the city and saving its citizens. Other images show his life and other significant events. The images were manipulated in Photoshop and then printed out to attach to the ceiling. Basswood was used as detail pieces in the structure that were stained with walnut colored stain.

The entrance for the priest is meant to allow the piece to eventually be attached to a cloistered abbey. Thus the section goes straight to the edge to allow it to align with the eventual abbey.

Fluff:
The church honors the deeds of St Francis and allows worshippers to bring in their pets and animals to the services.

This is another great model. Clean staight lines, very effective plasterwork inside and I love those caryatid columns. Can't wait to see the entire abbey finished.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there ;-)

The buttresses really make the outside look good. I like the plastered walls and murals on the inside. If the rest of the abbey comes out this good it will be a remarkable piece of work.

I really liked the way you staggered the floor tiles inside the church. Nice job.

Great job on this church. The small brick mold is difficult to build with because it takes forever to have enough bricks. This is very well crafted and painted.
