| 8 inch Fieldstone round tower |
| |
I've been working on this for awhile now. The funny thing was it was never intended for HADD it was just something I wanted to do. I was working on this project while I was building what was originally going to be my HADD Medium entry (a seige tower) but I realized that the piece I was working on just plain sucked. So, I finished up this instead.
Nearly all the pieces in this tower are custom blocks made from either the 8" tower or the Ruined Tower molds. I've been working on carving them since Christmas. I ended up doing several pieces that didn't end up being used in this tower due to the way I did it but I plan on using them on later projects. Overall I'm very happy with how they turned out.
Molds Used:
8" Round Tower - 8" and 9" basic blocks, arrow slit, as well as the 9" arch
Ruined Tower Mold - The floor tiles, 8" arch, 8" flat piece, and stairs
6" Fieldstone Tower mold - The teeth pieces and floor tiles
4" Fieldstone Tower mold - floor tiles
Wooden plank mold - The trap door on the roof.
Dimensions: 8" round and 10" tall for a total of 26"

Thanks for the comments.
I use Hydrostone blocks to carve in. It's hard enough not to rub off the details (like PoP did) and fairly easy to carve. I've tried carving Excalibur and it was just too hard to work with for this kind of thing.
I started on these pieces around Christmas last year so it took about 7 months of carving off and on to finish them up. I also had a few atttempts at building, realize I missed a piece or needed something and had to carve and remake the mold.
These pieces will be available through the CMP in the near future.

Nice sturdy tower. Good job on your custom bricks. Do you cast some original bricks in something that is easy to carve then make your own mold once you get them the way you like? I use dental plaster and can't imagine carving them with much success. Well done.

Impressive job. I can just imagine how long it must have taken to carve all these blocks. The result is very high quality.

Very neat carving - a very good translation from chipped stone to fieldstone textures. I wonder how long it'll be before Bruce steals these :-p

What dedication! An eight inch tower! Nice build making custom blocks from other Hirst Art blocks. Overall this is a great build that shows your own unique vision. Great job.
