 The Griffin Inn

By ERIC_DUCREUX - Dec. 31, 1969

The Griffin Inn was made using 5 principal moulds:
- The Prison Tower (main door, corner bricks and regular blocks),
- The Dragon's Inn (door opening, window opening, flat tiles and angular bricks),
- The round tower (for the tower and the spiral staircase),
- The Turret mould (pigeon dove)
- The bridge mould (for the front side window).
I also used the Wall builder mould to do the flooring and walls quicker and the wizard tower for more regular blocks.

I made each section of wall separately in order to make them perfectly flat and also to paint them with ease.

The roofs are entirely made of balsa wood and were almost more work to do than building the Inn itself (mainly due to the window area and especially the rounded section).

The base out of Foamboard painted with raw umber and covered with static grass. The ivy made of cotton string tainted with paint, and covered with chopped lichen and green flockage (the first time I was trying my hand on Ivy…).

The main door and the side door are hinged and can be opened and closed as will. I used the system with my Wizard Tower, finding some mini-hinges in my local hobby shop.

The paint was done using a mix of burnt umber, yellow ochre and white. The roof is simply painted in black and brush with light grey.

The total number of bricks is 697, and the complete blueprints will be available on my web site: www.EricOnline.co.uk starting the 15th of November alongside more photos.

The Sign of the Inn will be made by Mr. Colin McNeil (Artist working on the comics Batman and Judge Dread), but unfortunately was unable to produce it for the HADD...

The Griffin Inn will be sold at charity auction the Saturday 16th of March 2002 at Conpulsion, Edinburgh GEAS: the role-playing society annual convention (http://www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/societies/geas/convention/index.html).
