This piece was inspired by the great lighthouse of antiquity at Alexandria (Pharos) – one of the seven wonders of the world. The end-result owes something to that ancient wonder, but strayed a bit from its progenitor. If you’re curious about what the Alexandria lighthouse might have looked like, check out the artists reconstruction at either of the following web sites:

My wife insists on calling this building an astrological observatory, and I can see why. It could just as easily serve as a lighthouse or an observatory. Either way, I had fun designing it for HADD2!

I set out to make a fortress that would appear intimidating to the local peasants, yet easily fit on a wargame table. My focus was to make a fortress with a dark and serious feel.

Once I had accumulated over 20 molds, I got to thinking one night on how you could improve on the Wizard's Tower. I started experimenting, then building, then before long I had a bigger and better version of the Wizard's Tower. I used pieces from 10 different molds plus one home made mold to build it.

This gladitorial arena is constructed using the following molds: Dragon Inn, Prison tower and basic floor tiles (though you could do it with just the dragons inn mold and a whole lot of patience). I doubt it’s fairly historically accurate but I like to think of this as a small city or countryside arena. Not as big or elaborate as its bigger brothers, this arena is more functional than artistic.

As medieval warfare progressed, hoardings were invented and became a common tool in siege defenses. Before hoardings were invented, a defender had to lean out, thus exposing himself, in order to attack someone at the base of the wall. Hoardings allow a defender to drop items straight down, thus eliminating the attackers "safe zone" close up against the wall. I always wanted to give hoardings a shot, and this is what I came up with.
