By GAMER - Dec. 31, 1969 Size - 10" tall, 7.5" wide, & 7" deep.Molds Used - Wizard's Tower Dragon's Inn Prison Tower Wooden Planks Small Bricks Cobblestone Wooden Shingles Assorted Blocks & 2 Cap molds My goal was to build something that looked like the Wizard's Tower, but was larger and more detailed. These included things such as a wooden roof, corner supports, a second floor, wooden stairs, a chimney, etc, etc, etc. The first floor is made of cobblestones. There is a fireplace and chimney built against the back wall. There are two beams and planks along the wall which support the second floor. The tower section has stairs winding up to the second floor, then a ladder up to the top of the tower. The stairs and ladder were made from the wooden plank mold. The second floor is also made from the wooden planks mold. All of the outside corners are buttressed. (You need two different molds to make these! # 110 & 130) The roofs are supported by the Wizard's Tower's gargoyle supports. On the inside of the second floor roof, I used 1/4" arches to support the block portion of the roof. Around the first floor, there are several 1" arrow slits. I always felt the arrow slits were a bit tall, so I made these by cutting down the original Wizard's Tower arrow slits. I filed a cross pattern into the arrow slit, then cast a mold. The second floor has window using the arches from the Prison Tower. Rather than making a stone or flat wooden roof, I made stone 1" stone walk around the edge then a peaked roof which covers the rest. Once I built this part I realize that there would be a real problem with the roof holding water, so I decided to create drains. After thinking over several complicated ideas, I came up with a simple one. I drilled holes through to the outside of the wall and made some simple channels to move the water farther out from the wall. These are simply the "T" shaped supports from the Prison Tower with a groove filed into the back side. I used a rectangular shaped groove, but a "V" shaped one would probably work just as well. The caps on the crenelations are from mold 132. The roof of the tower is made from the wooden plank mold. The doors and trap door on the tower roof are from the wooden plank mold too. The cross beams on these were sanded down at least 50% before putting them on. The normal 1/4" size is way to think. Overall I was quite happy with this piece. The basic design is nothing original, but there are lots of small things to spruce it up. A touch of furnishings to the inside finish it out into a very good looking model.
