By GAMER - Dec. 31, 1969 Shortly after I got my round fieldstone tower molds, I was playing around and realized that you could use the transition pieces to join the 4" and the 6" towers together. This is the result of that discovery. To make the combination, I used one 4" transition piece and one 6" transition piece on each level. Each layer you switch which side has the 4" or 6" piece. Make sure that the 4" tower is the right size. Once you start going higher than the other tower, any error will become obvious. Other than the transitions, the basic towers are built in normal fasion. I wanted a simple look, so I didn't flare out the tops of the towers. Once the towers were built, I added buttresses around the bottom. This breaks up the otherwise plain round towers and gives them a much stronger appearance. The door was made from the wooden plank mold. The stairs up to the door are a combination of floor pieces from the 6" tower, straight fieldstone blocks, and the stair piece from the fieldstone bridge. The spiral stairs going up from the top of the 6" tower to the top of the 4" tower were made with the spiral staircase piece, but I "curved" them the opposite way at the bottom. The foundation of the 6" section of the tower actually sinks down into the base one inch. To do this all I did was build the 6" ring and mark around it on the foam. After that I use my razor knife to cut in around my mark. Once the perimeter was cut, I made several cuts across the area from different directions. Once the area was sectioned into small areas, I dug out the pieces be hand. The ring of blocks was placed into the foam and plaster poured in to form the floor. Spackling was used to fill any crack around the edge of the blocks. At this point there is no intererior, but if I ever get time I will probably do one. The base was finished using Mr. Hirst's idea for the tower ruins base. I sprikled kitty litter around the bottom of the cliffs. The pieces from all those cracks had to go somewhere after all.....
