 Fieldstone Ruin

By PELLINOR - Dec. 31, 1969

measurements: 7.5x5x4.5"
Block count: appr. 230

molds used:
# 70 Fieldstone Wall
# 63 Octagon Tower
# 80 Dragon's Teeth (small columns)
# 220 Wooden planks: floor, stair
# 250 small bricks (the fireplace)
# 240 wood shingle roof

custom molds:
* oct fieldstones
* ruined fieldstones

Plan & Construction:
The octagon edges are made with pieces from the octagon tower mold with a fieldstone structure carved on them. I made a custom mold of these (see picture). An alternative method to get this design would be sanding basic fieldstones to the desired angle (what I did with the small arches). I also used a custom mold with ruined fieldstone pieces.
The floor of 'wooden planks' is based on 3mm foamboard. Instead of gluing the stair to the building I gave it a support so it can be moved or left away.
The floorplan is a bit tricky as the octagonbricks were not designed for a small tower and have odd dimensions when used in a smaller diameter. But the layout works good enough without sanding the octagon bricks.

Paintjob:
The paint schemes for wood pieces and for the fireplace are standard schemes: black primer/dark drybrush/light drybrush. For the main walls I first primed in black, then painted individual stones in 4 colors. Then I put thinned white into the spaces between the stones, followed by a white drybrush. I found that 'washing' in white has the problem that the spaces between blocks are so deep that the ink doesn't fill them so some of the spaces stay dark.
