By ZOOGLA - Dec. 31, 1969 I made this set of floortiles, since I like the game of Space Hulk a lot and think that the Hirst Arts line of Blocks is ideal for giving this game a three dimensional feeling rather than playing on flat floor tiles made of cardboard.Since I am not a fan of the Sci-fi blocks in the Hirst Arts range I had to find a way to justify the use of blocks from the fieldstone range. That's why I chose the title for the different setting of the original Space Hulk game which had taken place in Space on abandoned (well, almost abandoned) Space Crafts. I really like a desert colored setting so I went for this approach and another benefit is, the tile set can easily be used for a different game system (yet to be inventerd?) set in the explorer age or a desert dungeon setting. At first I made plans for all the tiles using Microsofts 'Visio' program to get a feeling of how many tiles I will need and how many casts this will take. I used tiles from the fieldstone range with few custom made blocks to add details with skeletons and skulls lying around and give the place a more adventurous feeling. The floortiles were glued down to 5mm thick foamcore cardboard to give the single tiles more strength. The floors constist of 1,5'' * 1,5'' large flagstone floor tiles in the middle and 1'' * 1'' flagstone floortiles to either side of straight floors. The walls are 2 fieldstone tiles high (making it 1'' high) For painting the tiles in a sandy/desert fashion I used a black spraypaint undercoat, followed by a darkbrown undercoat and two subsequent drybrushes with yellow ochre and a light beige. Skulls, Skeletons and bones were worked out with light beige and white. I added some (very few) plants/funghi coming out of the floor using modelling putty and painted them dark green/red followed by a light green/red drybrush.
