By HYPERION - Dec. 31, 1969 Ruined CryptThe Ruined Crypt is 10’’ wide x 5.5’’ deep x 5’’ high. The Ruined Crypt is made up of about 375 bricks. The following molds were used for the ruined crypt: 40 – Basic building bricks 42 – Door 44 – Door arch 45 – Large Tomb 52 – Door and floor tiles 56 – Small tomb, roof 267 – Floor tiles At first I hadn’t really decided how I was going to build this crypt so the first step for me was to build the foundation. I used the large floor tiles because they matched up perfectly. After that I built the 3 tombs. They are actually based off Bruce’s designs. After I built the tombs was when I decided I wanted to make it a crumbling crypt. I wanted a part of the roof to be left on the crypt so I built the right wall first. Since a part of the roof would still be left here I thought the wall should be in the best shape. I built it in two halves. The front right corner half and the back right corner half matched up at one line on the right wall and the front and back sides both came down diagonally. I then built the doorway wall. I also thought this would be more stable since it would have been built more soundly because of the door. So I built a almost solid wall for this part. After that I need to build the left front and back corner pieces. Both pieces come down diagonally on both side and they overlap each other on the left wall. Next was the last piece which was the extra wall piece on the back wall. Finally I had to add the roof. I used alternating large and small pieces and used cardboard to mount it onto the wall. Now it was time to destruct. I used a hammer and screwdriver and a pair of pliers. On the right wall where the two halves met up I cracked the wall all the way down to create a crack all the way down. I also crack all of the roof tiles on both sides. One each section I chipped off pieces all along the edges of the wall. I created a gap where the two pieces met on the left wall. I used the hammer and screwdriver to chip away at the solid parts of the wall and also chip away at the floor. Then I collected various pieces of the blocks from the destructions process and glued then at certain spots on the crypt to be used as rubble. I made rubble piles at places where there are big gaps in the wall, with pieces of roof tiles under the roof area and very fine rubble under the crack on the right wall. I painted the crypt using the classic gray scheme. I used both light and dark gray to highlight the detail in the tombs.
