My wife has a large Sisters of Battle/Witchhunter army; I'm doing a number of thematically related pieces to create the environs of a church/convent/etc. for the game table. Ways and Means: The pool is a simple combination of 1" floor tiles, standard blocks, and a few trim pieces. The center base combines octagon tower and gothic accessory components. The two raised basins where the spouts from the crown empty use floor tiles from the skematic pyramid at their bottom (though this is hard to see in the images due to the water) and the two engraved half-inch tiles where these basins empty into the center are from the tomb mold. The channels for the waterfalls are the alcove backs from the bell tower, which were sanded with the Dremel to match the curve of the ring. Gaps were filled with green stuff. For the two rings on the central pillar, the longer 4" wall brick from the ruined tower was used to make the circle and glued with 2-part epoxy. Then a 'floor' of Excalibur was poured using the method from Tips&Tricks #6. The pillar itself is made from arch trim from mold #44 and the small 4" diameter wall brick from the ruined tower. The pieces are not glued flat along the faces; rather I arranged them so they would fit just within the diameter of the ring. Even though the contact surface is only a thin edge of the pillar support piece, a thick bead of epoxy holds everything tight and sturdy. The top ring features the half arrow slit from the octagon tower for the spouts. The ends of the slits and to a lesser degree the ends of the curved bricks were sanded down with the Dremel to fit with each other. A very small amount of 'green stuff' putty was used to fill in gaps. The icons on the pillar and skull reliquaries are scrounged from GW's Sisters of Battle Immolator tank sprue. Along with the Reaper Guardian Angel, they are the only non-Hirst components. The standing water is Envirotex Lite, tinted with a tiny amount of ink. The falling water is made from Woodland Scenics Water Effects gel. The top spouts are monofilament line, the 'waterfalls' are plastic strips cut from a mini blister pack. Both are coated with the gel and then a toothpick is used to texture the ripples at the base. Gaps in the bricks were sealed with 2-part epoxy before painting. When the water has dried, the ripples are lightly drybrushed with white. Most of the model was painted using various mixes of black and white enamel house paint. The angel and the skulls in the reliquaries were painted with Citadel and Vallejo paints. -Izain, Exarch
