 Critter Generator

By GAMER - Dec. 31, 1969

*** Just so I don't get anybody fired up at me, I want to let everyone know that the runes in the dome pieces and the curved part of the arches were done by Gerard Boom. I used them in a different manner than he did and added pieces of my own design, so I have no problem submitting this as my own piece. If you disagree, you don't have to vote for me.

Anyway, my goal was a piece that would create four monsters at a time. The logical solution was four arches. I had the carved pieces from Boom, and realized that these would be a great start. I carved runes into some straight pieces to use with them. The curved pieces are from the Turret Mold. I put regular blocks behind the arches to join them together.

I didn't like the square look of the four arches together, so after a bit of experimentation, I came up with the flying buttresses. The arch is from the Traveller's Bridge Mold. The support for the brazier are purchased pieces.

For the floor I used blocks from the Gothic Church and Bell Tower, plus some other trim pieces from a mold that isn't available any more. The inside pieces are from the Station Builder. This created a nice smooth floor.

I wanted to make a groined vault look for the roof. Once I built the arches in a ways, I added the 3" tower section on top of them. For the cap I used the rune carved dome pieces I got from Boom. For a cap piece I used a succubus figure from Reaper Miniatures.

The torches are made with pieces from the gothic dungeon builder mold. The fancy column cap has the bowl trimmed down and set on top of it. With 13 flames on this piece, I din't want all the fires to look alike, so I made the flames using air drying clay.

The paint job is standard, dark gray, medium gray, and a light gray dry brush.

Two ideas that I considered but ended up not using were:

Printing some unique design onto clear plastic and inserting them into each arch. I think this woud have been a real nice effect, but my printer did not want do cooperate here.

My original concept was to put lots of switches, buttons, and levers on this. The wrong ones would hurt the players. It was a neat idea, but as I built this piece I decided it was to pretty to put all that stuff on it.

Also, the center screams for something to be put there, but at this point I can't decide what! It will probably end up being some type of crystal or simalar object.
