 Cathedral of Lillput

By CATGUNNER - Dec. 31, 1969

A majestic Cathedral towers in the heart of the city with colossal arches, stained glass windows and copper topped domes, and it fits in the palm of your hand! When Bruce first showed the preliminary shots of the Gothic Panel and Gothic Arena Accessories molds, I thought to myself that it looked like a very small scale cathedral. After getting the molds, I made a small cathedral for a friend as a Christmas present to use with his Battletech gaming. It worked out pretty well, so I made myself one and thought it would be a perfect project for the Small Category of HADD5.

Size: 3.5" long x 2.75" wide x 3.5" tall (well within the 20" limit, I think)

Molds:
#42 Gothic Arena Accessories (~4 castings)
#43 Gothic Panel Accessories (~4 castings)
#300 Station Builder (for filler pieces on the inside, but any basic brick mold would work) (1 or 2 castings)

~60 individual blocks in total

Painting: I used a dark gray base coat, then a lighter gray dry brushing. Then a fairly thin brown dry brush (just tinted the gray dry brash). An Ivory dry brush layer to finish most of the awesome details in Bruces sculpting on these pieces. The roof started with a blue mixed with black base coat, then a blue/dark gray dry brush layer. For the windows, I used Folk Art metallic paints thinned with enough water so that it would flow into the crevices and dots in the bricks. I tried to do a black wash to get the panel lines of the stained glass, but it didn't work out like I wanted. I did use the black wash to darken the arches on the front though. Lastly, I used some Folk Art metallic copper for the peaks and the detail bumps around the top of the first level.

Probably the hardest part in designing this project was figuring out which details would look best at this tiny scale, and figuring out how to use the spacing bricks inside to get it to fit together properly.
