 Working Clock Tower

By HYPERION - Dec. 31, 1969

Clock Tower

The clock tower is 5’’ wide x 5’’ deep x 14’’ high.

The clock tower is about 450 bricks.

The following molds were used to make the clock tower:
40 – Basic building blocks for the tower.
44 – Doorway
45 – Windows
51 – Doorway, wizard faces, top caps.
52 – Outer clock ring
61 – Balcony, inner clock face
201 – Ground floor

The first step in making the clock tower was finding a way to create a working clock face. I bought a cheap clock from a 99 cents store and ripped it apart for the pieces. I then put together a clock face from mold 61 and sanded out the center for the hand mechanisms to go through. I then added the outer ring from mold 52. After that I made new clock hands for the face and glued in the markers.

The next step was to decide how big to make the tower. I wanted the clock to tough the edge and not go over or be short so that made the tower 4’’ square. I started from the bottom with an abstract floor design and then started building the tower up.

The main tower is just basic building adding doors, windows, and arrow slits in symmetric fashion.

I added a balcony directly under the clock so it would seem that the miniature I planned on putting there could control the clock.

The top of the tower is 5’’ square with top cap decorations.

The backside of the clock face is a basic wall with the bricks taken out where the clock mechanism is so it still matches up with the other walls perfectly.

I painted the clock tower with a brown color scheme. I used a very dark brown-gray and then dry brushed over with a lighter brown-tan. I used a light tan for the alternate color in the clock face and ground floor.
