By FBR - Dec. 31, 1969 I’ve always loved gate houses. Ever since I first got the GW cardstock buildings back in the eighties they’ve been something of a terrain staple for me and my fantasy game tables. This one is designed very much with miniature war gaming in mind: I’ve left it without a base for true modular set up on a city/town based game board, allowing it to be put right up against other buildings or walls. I’ve also not furnished the inside as I find this can get in the way of game play, especially in skirmish based games where you tend to get a lot of individual characters moving around constantly. Also, plenty of nice big windows for shootiness. I’d have to admit I just plain forgot to make a door! The paint job is very basic and a bit of an experiment. It’s just a straightforward black undercoat, mid grey basecoat and light grey highlight. I then just applied various glazes and washes to add depth of colour and weathering, probably should have used a bit of dry brushing to even out the tone a bit, but I quite like how dark and dirty looking it came out, so there it is. Oh, and it took me about two weeks to finish. The three main molds I used were: •Wizard's Tower (#50) – eight casts •Dragon's Inn (#51) – four casts •Bridge (#53) – four casts •Wood Shingle Roof (#240) – six casts In addition to these there are also a few pieces each from: •Gothic Dungeon Accessories (#41) – three casts •Gothic Arena Accessories (#42) – two casts •Gothic Church (#54) – four casts •Fieldstone Wall (#70) – four casts •And a single Large Floor Tile (#267) Dimensions of the build are: •Height – 8.5” •Width – 6.5” •Depth – 4.75” …though the roof does over hang this a bit, by about 2/3” on two sides, making it slightly too big for the small category, which is what I’d originally intended to enter this model into. Doh! Materials used: •Herculite Stone Powder •Anita’s Tacky glue •Balsa wood •Tiny, tiny little brass nails (the sort used for scale ship building) •Milliput •Artist’s Gesso •Anita’s Acrylic paints •GW Inks Tools & Equipment: •Pliers •Sculpting tool •Razor saw •Mini mitre box •Sandpaper •Stanley knife •Wire Brush •Selection of paint brushes NOTE: I forgot to shrink the pictures on the original posting so have added a second batch that are smaller versions of the originals. Please look at these instead of the original ten as they are HUGE!!
