By CLIFF - Dec. 31, 1969 Do Knot EnterMolds used: Egyptian basic block mold #95 Egyptian floor title mold #290 Bits and figures used: Skeleton bits I’m fairly sure are from Warhammer fantasy figures. I actually bought in a “grab-bag” type of format from a local comic book store. No original packaging was on them. Measurements: 8 by 5 by 3 totaling 16 Construction: It is based on 1/2 inch blue foam. The bricks are cast in Dunham’s Rockhard Water Putty then varnished and stained with shoe polish. Fluff: This is a single trap room that works within a larger dungeon setting. It was designed for an adventure played by a Boy Scout Troop. The adventure’s name is “The Lost Tomb of Lord Badden-Powell”. For those who were not in scouts Badden-Powell is the founder of the scouting movement. The large concept and theme of the dungeon was that in order to get to the final treasure the boys would be tested on all of their scouting and camping skills. This trap tested knot tying. The first image adventurers will see is the large two color square knot. The Hieroglyphic to English translation of the lettering around the knot is “Do Knot Enter”. Past victims of the trap are lain strewn about the floor with pieces of rope along side them. Here’s how the trap works, as characters walk across the room rope will snake out and grab then strangle the trespassers. The only way to safely get past them is to tie the ends into certain knots. The knots increased in difficulty across the room. At first it was a square knot, then bowline, building up to taught-line hitch, and perhaps ending with the sheep-shank knot. When the game was actually played regular full sized rope was given the players and the oldest boys were given a time limit for each knot. Failing to tie the knot properly or within the time limit resulted in taking a hit point or two of damage. For obvious reasons within the game the characters could not simply cut their way through.
