The city was located at a natural harbor along a swamp-infested section of the coast. Basically a scrap of land that no one else really wanted to invest time or energy into. The city grew and did become prosperous over time while fending off pirates and orc raiders. There are four distinct time periods for the city of Helsport. The time period are sometimes referred to as the founding, the prosperity, the cataclysm, and the period of rebirth. The version shown is the second time period, the time before the social and religious upheaval of the third period. The time period in which the city was dynamic and held opportunities for the bold. The city is divided into several districts. The map shows the individual areas of the city and specific buildings or areas of note. The sections are; the Religious District, the Nobles District, the Residential District, the Merchant District, the Warehouse District, and the Naval District. Most people will have access to the Religious District, the Residential District, and the Merchant District. However, one must always have their papers in order to move from district to district. The city is based on a Theocratic Bureaucracy of Hel under the leadership of Atlan Miskovar, Hels high priest of the city, and daily governance is run by the thieves’ guild/ city hall. The city is tolerant of other religions as long as homage is paid to the city’s patron deity. The city has a strong Nordic tradition while incorporating other ideas and concepts.
