 Hoth Base

By CLIFF - Dec. 31, 1969

There are two components to this diorama. The main part being the Snowspeeder hanger bay including a runway and loading machinery with conveyor belts. The second part being modular hallways that have a matching theme.

It is a blend of the cave and Sci-fi series of molds. The cave molds here are painted white and light blue wash was applied to the cracks to create an snow and ice look. This diorama was my first attempt at using the model railroading fake snow.

Toward the main gate are "natural" ice cave walls and the further in the base the ice is replaced with man made materials. The ground is a blend of ice and flooring. As I daydreamed the funcational layout of the base the Tauntaun stables are toward the front near the main gate. The cave molds have small pools of water, which in Hoth are feeding troughs.

This base was designed with storing it 'after the game' in mind. All of the walls are removable. That is one the strengths of this model.

Added into the main hanger bay section is a series of 5x5 modular hallway and room sections that allow for great changeability when laying out an adventure.
