    28mm Ship
    28mm Ship View ]
  • Abstract :  This is a ship based on Gary Chalk's excellent article from the Foundry website. After seeing Codemonkey's excellent ship I had to try one of my own. I modified construction a little but tried to stay true to the design.

Dimensions: 18 1/4" long from tip of bowsprit to stern. 13" tall at mastheads. 4 1/4" wide.

Components:The hull was made from a block of 2 inch insulation foam that I cut to size and shape. Deck planks were made from 1/16 inch balsa wood. My son Stephen scribed the plank lines. Sails came from an old Lindberg "Jolly Roger" model kit. The exterior hull is posterboard and the basket work on the prow is 0.060 plasticard (that was hard to cut). The gold trim on the sides is some gold braid my wife found for me at Hobby Lobby. Made some modified swivel guns based on the US White Dwarf #291 siege article for the Storm of Chaos campaign. The ornament on the stern is from a scrapbook page trim pack. The lion figurehead is a 68 cent charm bracelet charm from Hobby Lobby. The decorative trim on the prow is a piece of furniture trim from Hobby Lobby. Used some 3/8 nylon washers as trim around the base of each mast to cover the ragged hole in the deck from drilling through the balsa. Added some struts and another washer with holes drilled through for weapons racks. The weapons came from GW Empire Militia, Zombie regiment, and Mordheim Human Mercenary sprues. They're a little rough because I had to cut off the hands holding them. The bell is also from the Zombie Regiment sprue, and the lantern is from the Mordheim sprue. The flag is an Empire standard with a Empire standard ornament glued onto an ornamental toothpick. The railing on the poopdeck is balsa and some more ornamental toothpicks. Stern windows are Mordheim bitz with pieces of blister pack plastic for glass.
