Junkers vs Virdians vs VASA 800pts

Junkers –
1 Korvus
1 Squad of Suicide Bombers
2 Squads of Legionnaires
1 Squad of Thermite Lancers
1 Squad of Exo-Suits

VASA –
3 Birds of Prey
1 TAV
2 Black Legion Squads
1 Marine Squad

Viridians
1 Behemoth
1 Terrasaur unit
1 Mortar
1 Marine Squad
1 Commando Squad

TURN ONE
With the way the table was set up, and the placement of troops, the Viridian player could not take advantage of the “Infiltrate” skill, so had to employ his Commandos as foot-sloggers. Just movement on the part of the Junkers and VASA for the first turn, but the Viridians got aggressive opening up full-bore with their heavy guns (Support Behemoth & TR8 Terrasaur) against both VASA and the Junkers. Junkers had minimal casualties, the prudent thing would have been to target the center of the Junker mass; even a “near-ish” miss would have done serious damage to many troops, but he did succeed in taking out two with a blast on one unit. VASA fared much worse… all of a Black Legion squad of six got waxed the first turn through a Viridian Marine squads volley and a terrasaur attack– except the Sgt, who bravely stood firm shouting insults and mocking the enemy…

TURN TWO
The Junker player addresses the credible threat of the Behemoth, closes with a squad of Legionnaires and the Korvus for better range bonuses, and takes some shots, missing. VASA disembarks the VASA Marines from the TAV. The 3 Birds of Prey close with the Junkers, the last Black Legion squad “jumps” into the top floor of a burned out building. Enjoying previous success, the Viridian player is happy to stand and shoot where he is, again volleying at the last standing Black Legion Sgt, killing him, and then targeting the TAV. A miss with a grenade launcher ends up killing a Marine chaingunner from the disembarked squad... The TAV unloads both mounted chainguns into the Viridian Marine squad, taking out all but four Marines. The Behemoth succeeds in shooting and blowing up even more Convict Legionnaires… The Commandos get up into rough terrain cover, hiding from the Junkers.

TURN THREE
Fortune favors the bold, so the VASA player “jumps” his remaining Black Legion, charging the terrasaurs… Already an elite assault force with high scores, plus the “shock trooper” bonuses for the charge, the odds are they would tear up those four terrasaurs. As expected, the six Legion scored eight hits, and needed 4+ to wound rolling 8 d10's - - - but atrocious rolls are made, and the Black Legion score only one wound on one terrasaur. ARRGH! All but the Sgt are killed off in close combat by the terrasaurs next phase… The Junkers have not given up on killing the Behemoth, firing the Korvus, using the Legionnaires, moving the Thermite Lancers closer, and redirecting the Exo-Suits… even if they don’t kill it, if they could encourage a “rampage” to neutralize its withering firepower, they are better off. All attacks fail to hit or wound though. The VASA player decides the Birds of Prey should not be taken within "charge" range of the Suicide Bombers after all, and “jumps” them towards the Junkers, making armor saves from a Mortar strike upon landing. The Viridian Commandos move off of their cover to get LOS on the Birds, and fire a volley, scoring one wound per Bird.

TURN FOUR
The VASA Marines take cover behind terrain to gain benefit of at least partial cover saves if needed, terrasaurs finished off the remaining Black Legion Sgt, more Junker shots on the Behemoth that miss, more movement of Thermite Lancers (can’t wait to see what they do to the Behemoth!) The VASA TAV moves and fires into… OH NO! Store is closing!! Game called for time…

It was pretty evident that the Viridians had the SERIOUS advantage of indirect firepower. This was capitalized on by the players aggressiveness, it really played to his advantage… Many VASA and Junker forces never got to engage due to the troop/weapon type, distances and bad movement calls early in the game (Exo Suits, Suicide Bombers, Thermite Lancers, Birds of Prey, VASA Marines), while EVERY Viridian unit except the Commandos engages EVERY turn.
