VOID Assault Royale, Syntha vs VASA, 840pts

VASA
Grand Master Knight of Fury
3x Black Legion Squads

Syntha
Dr Omega
1 Squad Assault Teratosynths
2 Squads Assault Androsynths

This was played on a table with lots of terrain for inhibiting movement and providing partial cover.

TURN ONE
Synth Player wins initiative. Jut movement first turn as each force deployed. VASA covered great distance with their jump packs.

TURN TWO
Just movement again as each force positioned for mutual support of their squads, the VASA player moves his Knight of Fury-led legion into a burned out building.

TURN THREE
Synth Player wins initiative. The Snytha player charges into the building at the Legion, using the shock trooper skill to get the bonuses in the attack. Outnumbered and reeling, the Black Legion lose two of their four members, but take out two Androsynths. Dr Omega takes a medium-range shot at another Black Legion squad in partial cover and misses.

TURN FOUR
VASA player wins initiative. The VASA player uses his Knight of Fury meta power “Battlefeat of Wonder” giving all members of his squad bonuses on their attacks, they succeed in killing another two Androsynths, but the Andros kill all but the Grand Master himself, who now has one wound. More jockeying of positions with the other Black Legion and Syntha

TURN FIVE
VASA player jumps into an advantageous position, and shoots ion lances into the Terantosynths, wounding two. A return shot from the Teranto grape gunner takes out one Black Legion. The Grand Master Knight uses another meta power, “Tiger’s Fury” to gain multiple assault attacks, killing another two Andros, but gaining another wound in the return assault. The remaining Andro squad moves out of cover to get into position to rush one of the Black Legion units.

TURN SIX
Synth player win initiative, charges his Dr Omega-led Andro squad into a Black Legion squad, using their shock trooper ability and kills two, at the cost of three of their own… That loss rate is acceptable. The Grand Master Knight uses his “Tiger’s Fury” meta power to again get the bonus attacks, killing two more Andros, but finally succumbs to the pounding and crushing cesti of the Synth enemy… Old boy took out six Androsynths single-handedly. The Teranto make movement to the remaining Black Legion and the leader fires off his grape gun, resulting in one kill, the Legion returns with their ion lances into the Terantos, resulting in one kill, and one wound each for the remaining Terantos.

TURN SEVEN
VASA player wins initiative, shooting again into the Terantos, wiping them all out except the leader. The Andros engaged with the Black Legion make some great rolls and kill the remaining Legion, at the cost of two more Andros in the assault phase resolution. The remaining Andros make movement.

TURN EIGHT
VASA player wins initiative, jumps his last two figures into cover away from the Teranto leader (grape gun), and holds. The larger Andro squad rushes to the side corner of the cover that the VASA player is using, the last two Andros in the remaining squad move.

TURN NINE
Syntha player wins initiative, moves the Dr Omega-led Andro squad around the corner, but does not have enough movement to get into assault. Dr Omega fires his weapons at the remaining Legion, killing one. The remaining Legion jumps and moves, trying to escape, but moves within range of the Teranto grape gun, which finishes him off.

Assessment –Very balanced forces… Bad use of terrain by the Synth player (me), especially with the Terantosynths. Good use of terrain by the VASA player up to turn seven (sorry, calss em as I see's em). It was pitched, with either side having a good chance to win at each engagement until the very end… All figures were high-value elite assault specialists, with only two figures having medium-range combat capability. Only the very last shot hit at medium range (13in, barely medium at that) – all other kills were short-range and hand to hand - in the scrum.
