    Dragon airship improvements
    Dragon airship improvements View ]
  • Abstract :  I got some really good feedback on improvements to the airship so I made some changes. Tried weathering the lower portions of the balloons to represent smoke discoloration, added some limited rigging, and some sandbags.

    Dragon Airship Stern
    Dragon Airship Stern View ]
  • Abstract :  A view from the stern. The propellor is mounted into a piece of the dragon's tail. The hub of the propellor is made from the knob piece of the dragon's tail that inserted into the body. I cut angled grooves into the knob and inserted plasticard blades into the hub. I kept trying to find a propellor somewhere and finally gave up and made one. I think it came out okay.

    Dragon Airship
    Dragon Airship View ]
  • Abstract :  This a Dragon class airship for Flagship Games' Pirates!. I built it from a variety of components. The hull is from a 99 cent plastic toy boat. The balloons are styrofoam balls, the dragon parts are from a McFarlane Eternal Clan Dragon I found in a store's bargain bin and chopped up, planking is balsa, the scales on the external hull are from a thin plastic sign I picked up in a Dollar store and cut with a pinking shears, the propellor is scratchbuilt from plasticard. The control console/boiler element is another scratchbuilt component. I'm planning to buy an antenna from Radio Shack and mount it on some MDF for a flying base.

    Balsa Wood Ship
    Balsa Wood Ship View ]
  • Abstract :  This ship was constructed for use in a Mordheim canal. It's built from balsa wood and foam card and it based on the Wargames Foundry pirate ship instructions - although only at 60% scale of the original model.

It's currently awaiting detailing and some final painting before varnishing.

    Orc Battle Barge
    Orc Battle Barge View ]
  • Abstract :  This is another scratch-built ship for the Flagship Games Pirates! game. It will follow the rules for a galley and is ten inches long, 12 with ram. It is based on the one from the Warhammer Ahoy site, but not as well done. Construction was simple, A 5x10 inch piece of 1/2 inch foamcore with two more 5x3 inch pieces for the foc'sle and poopdeck. Used most of a $2 bag of craft sticks for planks and hull. Did a lot of weathering on this one also, as well as battle damage to the sail. The head on the ram is a GW metal Boar head. The orc totem on the sail was made from a hand cut stencil. I burned the sail in a few spots to show battle damage.
