This is a battle report based on a game I recently played at Millennium Games in Rochester, NY. It was the first of many I hope.
I played the Lions of Alahan and my army list was as follows:
Alahel the Messenger with the Sacrament and Deliverance
3 Swordsmen of Alahan
3 Reapers of Alahan (pistoliers)
3 Paladins of Alahan
3 Guardsmen of Alahan equipped with war pike (+2Str)
Total 306 pts.

The Dirz player had:
Kayl Katarn no extra's
Oriflamme (Dirz Standard)
Dirz Musician
2 Keratis Warriors
3 Dirz Halberdiers
3 Dirz Crossbowmen
3 Dirz Clones
1 Tiger of Dirz
Total= 317

We played a straight up fight because we had not played in several months that is also why we left out magic (for now).

The scenery consisted of two ruined buildings joined by a bridge and a Tower that neither of us could enter (actually our dice roller) but which served to split the board up nicely. My set up consisted of putting groups of troops (One each of the units I had) together in the top of the building, down at its base and then at the base of the Tower. Alahel I set up in the top of the building (a big mistake I found out).
My opponent set up all of his Halberdiers, one keratis warrior and a crossbowman at opposite foot of the Ruined building. One Crossbowman was set in the top of the ruined building. His tiger was set to his left (my right) of the back of the ruined building thus flanking my force in the building. Kayl Katarn and his war staff were placed behind the tower opposite my forces near the tower. The CLones, one crossbowman and a keratis warrior were placed there as well.

Turn 1: We rolled for tactical (assume each round that my opponent won unless I say otherwise). Alahel and the pistolier up top moved to target the crossbowman in the top of the building. The HtH troops in the top of the building also moved using dodge toward the crossbowman. The xbowman at the base moved to get line of sight on Alahel. The rest of my opponents troops moved toward mine. The tiger attempted to climb up to the top of the building he only moved up 2 cm. Like a newbie I forgot to move my other troops focusing in on the guys up top. Noone got hurt in the shooting phase.

Turn 2: My opponent continued toward my troops, near the ruined building, they were no in charge range of my troops on the ground. My troops near the tower realized they were outclassed and moved toward the center of the table. My opponents troops were stuck behind the tower and continued moving so that they could come around it. My troops in the top of the building moved closer to the xbowman. My guardsman actually made his charge. Alahel took up position at the window to shoot at the Dirz on the ground as did my Pistolier. The tiger decided to go after my foot troops near the ruined building. In the shooting phase my paladin in the ruined building was shot in the head and killed by the xbowman on the ground near the ruined building. My guardsman lightly wounded the xbowman in the ruined building. Nothing else happened this turn.

Turn 3: I won the tactical roll. I charge a Halberdier with a guardsman and a swordsman. My paladin near the ruined building is charged by the Tiger. A swordsman joins the fray against the Xbowman in the ruined building and slays him. Alahel makes an amazing roll and climbs down fromt he top of the ruined building in one movement and winds up in base to base contact with a Halberdier. My troops near the tower charge into the other two halberdierse, except for my swordsman who is charged by a Keratis Warrior. My opponent moves his troops behind the tower around to the side I am on. In the shooting phase I hit and fail to hurt the tiger, TWICE. In hand to hand my dice still suck. I outnumber my opponent in every battle and only fail to kill three of the figures i am in combat with. Two of those are because of Alahel. However, my opponent is as unfortunate as I am and only seriously wounds my paladin with his tiger. In the combat between the Keratis and the swordsman we both take a light wound.

Turn 4: My swordsman in the combat with the Keratis is swarmed by Kayl and two Clones. The other Keratis charges my swordsman who is engaged with a halberdier. The two xbowmen on the ground charge Alahel and a guardsman. In the shooting phase I again suffer palsy the tiger remains unhurt but is once again stunned. In hand to hand I seriously wound a xbowman and nothing else. My guardsman in the fight with Kayl and the Keratis dies (no surprise). My paladin is unhurt by the tiger this time around.

Turn 5: Kayl and the Keratis and the clones make it into combat with my other troops. One clone charges the paladin being assaulted by the tiger the others move into other multiple combats (I don't remeber which). Kayl finishes off his new opponent and pursues into a nearby fight where he promptly kills another guy. The tiger dies in the shooting phase (double sixes). My paladin in that fight holds his own against the clone. Another guardsman dies in a fight with a keratis. Alahel kills a xbowman. Game ends.

Points: I gave up 59 pts. my opponent only gave up 81. It was a close game and would have probably gone the other had we played another round. It was exciting and fun. It was the first game I have played since getting alot of rules questioned answered here or in the FAQ. I can't wait til the next one. BTW thanks to Ed for a great game.

CARTER - I would like to help make confrontation more available to others. I can help with Devourers and Lions.
