The hot steaming jungles of Hilia harbor many secrets - past and present. Imperial Archeologist,Nicolai Constantus, stepped through the thick wall of vegitation and into a world not seen for millenia. The encrouching jungle threatened to over take the narrow plazas and smaller pyramids nestled in the dark river valley.
Little did he know at the time, but Nicolai had found one of the Iron Empires most valuable archeological treasures to date. The creeping vines and overhanging trees cast a forbodingly dark aura about the small plaza that he had entered.
At first Nicolai believed that he had only discovered a small outpost or facility, but would soon discover that he had in fact found an ancient necropolis - an ancient city of the dead.
As he continued his search Nicolai found no less than eighteen temple pyramids scattered throughout the nearby jungle. Many of the temples remained shrouded by the high jungle canopy, yet others seemed to repel the creeping plants and remain open to the bright sunlight.
Based on his findings while at his camp within the city, Nicolai discovered an ancient dialect and depictions of what he believes were the aliens who had built the city.
The creatures seemed like humanoid lizards. They appearantly dominated a form of human subculture either living within the city our along the outskirts. Nicolai was unable to determine which since only the temple pyramids seemed to belay the onset of the jungle. If the humans were primitive, it would be unlikely that their domiciles would have survived the ravaging years. The pictograph also indicated that the lizardmen had some form of mental or spiritual dominance over the humans by the way in which a golden glow eminated from their heads. It is believed that the lizardmen most likely communicated through the use of some meta power of telepathy. Only a rare few humans have ever shown ability in the use of Meta Powers and so much of their capabilities remain an enigma to scientists.
The amount of information available was rather small other than a few rare finds within some of the temple pyramids. It was only after weeks of research did Nicolai realize that the entire city was dedicated to a cult of death or some other apocolyptic view point. Conflicting evidence, found within the city, suggest that other such locations existed within the region. Each city state as he learned, was dedicated to the worship of some facet to life - the sun, the moon, harvests, etc. The findings excited Nicolai very much but his supplies were running low and he was forced to abandon his research temporarily as he returned to civilization to resupply.
A few images from the first explorations have been documented here along with some of his notes.
