It was one of those long nights where the bugs are down to rest and your squad is just sitting around in their quarters. They are writing letters, looking at pictures, and some crying because they left home to join the Viridian Army. These few didn’t know what they were in for when they joined this army. They didn’t understand the consequences of joining an army. Not just the physical demands, but also the mental, visual, and audible ones. Some have passed out from the sight of the surgeons fixing up the wounds inflicted by spines. This is no regular bullet, this stuff slices through the body like small knives; like bullets, going straight through your shock armor and then your skin. This is the handy work of the Koralon.
My platoon and I are in a Viridian outpost. At first, all that you can hear are the cries from the troops and the Hydro-Fusion Generator. Then, if you listen real hard, you will hear it; the clacking sounds of blades against the outpost walls and slithering and sliding sounds coming through the bush. It’s the Koralon making these sounds.
At first, it seems like I am the only one who hears it. I whisper to everyone in this Quarter and say, “Everyone, Out of Bed! There are Koralon on the East wall. Fen, go tell all of the other quarters. And not too loud, OK?”
Slowly everyone in the outpost is up and ready for Battle. Fen returns.
“Fen, Get me all the Squad leaders, right now!”
Fenril, my messenger who is too afraid to actually battle, is off getting my squad leaders while some of the troops in my squad are moving up to the catwalk. “Everyone on the catwalk, crouch below the wall,” I whisper in the loudest tone I care to speak.
I turn around and notice all the squad leaders standing waiting for orders.
“ I want all your troops up crouching on the catwalk. And when I give the signal…. shoot. Don’t hold them back. Go!”.
I slowly move to give the signal to fire. All of the troops stand up and fire. Many of them cursing at the Koralon and others just plain screaming. By the time I reach the wall there are piles of brood stacked up to the top of the wall. On some sides of the Outpost, there are Koralon on the catwalk. Mortar teams below the walls are firing their last assault grenades.
I give the order to fall back into the Court. Slowly most of the rest of the troops are walking down the plank still firing back at the Koralon waves. Soon, overhead, we all see Harpicons.
“Those fething things! Everyone watch from above!”
When everyone finally noticed them there was cursing everywhere. Noticing the Koralon Forces were depleting I moved some Snipers up to the catwalk. Looking out from the catwalk I saw some Champions and a Broodmaster.
The Brood were finally gone but there were still Araktons and champions. I have a plan. If we take out the Broodmaster they may flee.
“Deris, get your platoon ready and charge the fething Broodmaster!”
“Yes sir!”
The sharpshooters had their marks on the Araktons and all the other troops were ready for the champions.
Realizing the sharpshooters had killed the Araktons I give the orders to move the troops down the piles of Brood.
In the end all the Koralon were dead. We didn’t let anything retreat. The Battle was finally over. All the Viridians that were left went back to the Hospital. Reinforcements finally arrived. The battle was over in Outpost 91-A.
---Shard, The Zealot---
In this outpost there once was a man named Shard Necidris. He hated the feeling of blood in his hands but he loved feeling of pure force a HMG or a grape gun gives when firing it at an enemy.
He grew up in Outpost 91-A. 91-A was on Terrales. A once barren wasteland now a thick-forested Savannah. So many diverse creatures, that once your in the forest, you’ll never come out. The Koralon flourished this Outer Ironglass planet. There seemed to be a society of Catlike humanoids forming also. Some have been seen but hardly where believed to be real. 91-A was a rather large outpost. Containing every thing from a bar to Newspaper press.
Happiness flourished this place. Shard lived there straight from the beginning.
He was brought there as a child. His father didn’t want to leave him with his angry mother. Everyone knew shard. He loved his life. Until one day a large battle took place and Shard’s father was put on the line of duty. When all the soldiers came back from the battle his father was missing. The rest of his life was filled with hatred of the Coraline technology. He would not even get close to the labs he used to play in. Heart-Broken and filled with hatred he joined the Marines.
Shard became one of the most valiant soldiers in his squad. He even became a sergeant in the one year he had already been in the service. There were many battles in his life as a sergeant. He then became the leader of a platoon, a group of squads. Shard loved the life as a Leader. He felt he had a strong sense of friendship towards the men in his platoon.
