Okay. For anyone out there who's listening, I've done a little research into this topic, and with a little luck I'm gonna try to make my first mould over the Easter weekend. I've been quite lucky and found a sculptural tool supplier just round the corner from my office in London. They stock all sorts of stuff, so I guess I'll be visiting them again soon. For anyone local who may be interested, it's on Warren Street up the other end from the tube station. The silicone they've recommended takes 24 hours to set, so the 4 day weekend is a godsend. If it all works out I'll carry on posting comments and instructions in this topic to let you know how I've got on.
The silicone I'm gonna be using is RTV T28: "A high strength two part room temperature condensation curing silicone rubber. Pale grey in colour, pourable, mildly flexible, with high strength. Can be used for making block moulds (or skin moulds) where large undercuts are present. " Apparently it can be used for casting almost anything except metals. That's cool 'cos I'll be starting off with plaster. Maybe try out some metal stuff in the future.
Watch this space. Or not... TOD
